About this block
Life happens moment to moment and so should your acting. Every moment is an opportunity to embody your character and bring them to life. In this class we'll look at techniques to help you perform in the moment. We'll find clues in the text that inform us about why the character is saying what they are saying, how they are feeling, and what they want.
Outline of classes
Our focus for this block is on finding the moment and being in the moment, to give a more genuine, rich portrayal of our character.
Finding gold in the text
There's a lot of meta-information in the text. By looking closely at the way the text is written, including word choice, length of phrase, rhythm, and much more, we can get more of a sense of who our character is and their journey moment to moment through the life of the scene.
Easier memorisation
Having a greater understanding of the text and your character and context makes the process of memorising your dialogue easier. You get to a point where you say the next line, not because it's what you've memorised, but because it's what your character wants to say.
Improvisation
Improvisation is all about being in the moment, and also an important skill for auditions and even some films. Improvising in character helps us to engage with the reality of our character and their context for a richer overall performance when we return to the text.
Filming
We will capture footage throughout the course, to help you see how you come across on camera, make adjustments and to see improvements by the end of the course.
